shed Tarantula skin by Reptangle shed Tarantula skin by Reptangle
I know this will creep some folks out, but I think the way a tarantula sheds its skin is magnificent.
Here is the newly cast outside of "Steptoe" , my pet roseback tarantula. See how there is a port to withdraw each leg and pedipalp? The top of the Cephalothorax just pops open to let the spider out in her new fuzzy coat. You gotta admit, that is pretty elegant

I think my two tarantulas, "Steptoe" and "Proudfoot" are rosebacks, but I am not sure!

I congratulate you on the courage to own a tarantula. I know most of them are harmless, but....eh, not for me.

My good friend has a Peruvian pink-toed one named Rose. She's sweet, but I cannot get close to her to save my life XD

I don't know. I would notice  the spider acting strange one day, and then by the next morning she would have completed the shed, so I have never seen it happen!
This info must be online somewhere..

I didn't know tarantulas shed their coat. I also didn't know that any sort of shedding creature could leave such a perfect shell of shedding in tact.

part of me is in awe at how amazing this is. and the other part is kinda grossed out... (I used to like spiders until a rather bad run with an exceptionally large camel spider... which has forever given me an intense loathing for all 8 legged arachnids.)

still, this is an amazing shell, and an honest wonder of the world, regardless of my feelings. thank you kindly for sharing.

Thanks so much! No it's not beta tester stuff. It's probably premium member stuff though. I design all the graphics in photoshop and the plug them into the customization areas with CSS code and all. I'm glad you like it and that you like my felties. I'm hoping I'll be able to post more soon. It's probably my most favorite medium.

It will get more fragile as it ages. I have it in a little plastic, covered box now, with a mothball,so I'll see how long it lasts.

Chilean Rose Hair. I still have one of these! She's 22 years old and named Lefty. Yours looks like a really handsome spider! You should include an "after" photo!

I was trying to photo her "after" but she has been staying all wadded up in a ball, and not being photogenic.
I've had Steptoe about 10 years. I bought her as a spiderling from a breeder.
Teddy, my old tarantula, was about 24 when she was accidentally killed. I wonder how long they can live?

You may also have had a male. They usually live up to six years, but conditions could have been ripe for yours to live much longer.
