Rainbow Rising Spectral Detail by Reptangle Rainbow Rising Spectral Detail by Reptangle
This is the "Rising Spectral" dragon, in the rainbow color. Some people think the rainbow paint scheme is a lttle too much, but, as a kid who was raised in a house with a color theme of "tasteful beige", I still crave all the bright garish color I can get, so I love these.
This dragon was one of our production painted pieces, and was sold through gift stores.
He is pretty big, about 11 inches tall. He has fancy dichroic backed, lead crystal globes for eyes, so they reflect light with the same rainbow colors as his body.
Here is a picture of the same sculpture in a different color, if you want to see the whole dragon: [link]
This is a gypsum reproduction of my original sculpture, produced by Windstone Editions. [link]

Heart This is so perfect, would you mind if I use it as a reference for a painting?

Well , we discourage people from using these as reference, but why not use what I used , real animals? They are copyright free!

This is so beautiful, I could stare at him for hours. I actually like the rainbow colour scheme, as long as it is balanced and does not look like "unicorn puke". Sorry for the phrase. xD But it looks fantastic on this little fellow, great job! :)

*sigh* <3 This fella' is so beautiful. Although I enjoy collecting your dragons in a variety of colors, this is my all time favorite! I would go bonkers from happiness if rainbow dragons made another appearance in the store one day! :)

I think we have retired "rainbow" on several of the dragons, but did we ever do them on the "Spectral"?

Not yet! (...Although I do know of at least one in existence. It was given to a fellow forum member years ago as a gift!)
Honestly though, I know they would be a massive hit in the store! Over the years, I have read countless people squeaking for them. I can only imagine how ecstatic it would make everyone if (our) dream came true! :squee:

We are going to be painting some of the new dragons in rainbow -if we've got a cart of Spectral castings around, maybe we can do them too.

We mix these colors ourselves, using Golden brand fluid acrylics. The gold is metallic gold ;the other colors are mixes of pigmented paint with various metallic and interference pigments added.
We experimented with a lot of paint!
Look up "Pearlex" pigments. they have lots of fancy opalescent and metallic colors avilable.
Also try searching on ebay for metallic pigments!

Very nice! I checked out the link to the whole dragon too. I like the precise intricate way the scales fit together. It's not too garish at all, in fact it's a fairly subtle rainbow mix, toned down just enough to not qualify as garish, though I'm fan of garish color too, lol.

I own 4 of these beautiful sculptures, all in the rainbow as well, and I mourn the loss of this color scheme. The sculptures are, needless to say, quite precious to me and I dust them carefully twice a week. I hope this color scheme comes back some time -- I never get tired of ogling it.

I love the rainbow paint scheme. Don't think it's garish at all. Think I'd prefer him with regular eyes though :)

Wow amazing color. I would love to see more pictures of him. The color is over the top but as another child who grew up with "tasteful beige" walls growing up I cant help but love it!

I love it! :) this is special dragon just because it is rainbow :) it has special ability hehe

p.s.- do you use airbrush to paint your sculptures? Is there some kind of special pain for it?

Lol, 'tasteful beige' in my old house everywhere as well :XD: that's why I painted my current bedroom blue ^_^
I love the paint job on this one, it's a true feast to the eyes  Also, the shine level is amazing, it makes me think of coloured waxes (like Inka Gold), were they used to cover the piece? :) Or is it airbrushed with regular acrylic but just clear-coated/waxed on top and buffed to get that shine out? Either way, it's awesome, those scales shine like a hood on a brand-new Lambo :XD:

It is airbrushed with metallic paint and given a clear acrylic gloss finish. Another painter put the finish on this piece, I cant get it to go on that nice!
