Puma kitty by Reptangle Puma kitty by Reptangle
I airbrushed this winged cat like a cougar kitten. This cat , named "Puma", is one of the special "stray cat editions " that we offer on ebay.
His wing spots are painted with color shifting paint which changes from teal to magenta ( even yellow too!) depending on the light direction. His glass eyes are metallic teal color and he has Swarovski chrystal jewels in his collar.
This is a reproduction of my original sculpture produced by Windstone editions. This cat is about 7inches tall.

This kitty was sold on ebay a couple years ago, but I am always  painting these winged cats with all sorts of markings. Here's a link to the website if you'd like to see them: windstoneeditions.com/
We also have a Paint-your-own winged cat if you are into customizing your own stuff: windstoneeditions.com/products…
 Thank you!

I found out :) I would very like to buy some of them but they're too expensive :/ But that's because they're handpainted, right? Beautiful sculptures, though!

Some are more expensive than others. The ebay pieces can go for a lot, but we have "production" pieces that are less expensive because they aren't painted as one-of-a-kinds.
Here is a link to our online catalog, scroll down to the "flapcats" box. [link]

yes! Since we aren't a real retail store(we are just an office attached to the studio where we make the stuff) that is the best method of payment for us.

I'm interested in the brand of the colour shifting paint and if it can be sourced in the UK? I have a PYO winged wolf that I'm thinking to give a magpie themed paint job too and I was a bit stuck on how to bring out the metallic colours in the feathers but this stuff would be perfect!

[link] Here is a place to look. It is difficult to order from them though...it is possible that this company only sells to other retailers.
This is what I mean by it being hard to get. We still haven't found a good supply.

This is still a real help though! Thank you! If I can't source anything however do you have any tips of how I might go about rendering the irridescence with normal paints? This is my first time painting sculptures and I haven't the first clue lol!

You cant really fake iridescence, but there are usually lots of paints available in craft and art supply stores that are iridescent... or create similar effects... look for ones called "interference" colors, those look beautiful when painted over a black background.

Elegant, well sculpted, skillfully painted, not to mention your anatomy is quite good as well. I love how you separated all those secondary feathers, too. An overall stuning and beautiful sculpture! :D
...I wish I could buy it... eAe

I love just the bits of color on the wings, it's a really pretty, subtle effect, rather than painting the whole wing that color.

I saw this one on ebay and omg so cute, I wish I had the cash for her! I have always adored the markings and gorgeous blue eyes of young pumas, it's so elegantly reflected in the wing coloration as well <3

Question: Where does one get color shifting paint like that, and is it expensive?

:iconreptangle:
Reptangle Featured By Owner Mar 8, 2012  Professional Traditional Artist
Yes! It costs a fortune.
It is kinda hard to find, but I think there are websites that offer it... I think a commercial brand is called "kameleon". It is an auto paint.

Oh wow, I thought that paint looked familiar! How hard is it to work with? Do you have to use an airbrush?

:iconreptangle:
Reptangle Featured By Owner Mar 8, 2012  Professional Traditional Artist
You can airbrush it or hand paint it. Hand painting won't go on as smoothly, of course.
