Foil Reindeer by Reptangle Foil Reindeer by Reptangle
'Tis the season to make aluminum foil reindeer.
Is it? I don't know, but I did.
He is made of solid aluminum foil. He is about 5" tall to the tips of the antlers.
This photo looks kinda weird because I used a photoshop filter, to make the texture of the foil more easy to understand.
Foil things are incredibly hard to photograph because you really need 3d vision to understand the form.

Those antlers look really great, and I really get a sense of heft from the sculpture - that is, that the subject is hefty, and not a dainty little deer with stick-legs.

Wow, I just made some foil stuff again, today at the lab, and I end up with the little unicorns without any details, while this masterpiece only took you 20 minutes. So jealous :D
I'm curious, how did you plan that out? Especially the antlers. I've read that it's made from 2 pieces, but then how do you divide them up so you end up with the right amount of foil for everything? I can do simple 4 legged shapes but sometimes I still have a hard time with the head, or with adding wings and stuff.

I had to think ahead to figure out how to do it.
I took one sheet and made a "Y" shape, with most of the foil in the bottom of the Y. I formed the face at the center of the Y, each arm of the Y became a separate antler and ear. The lower part of the Y became the core shape of the body. Takes practice.
I should do a tutorial some time.

You inspired me to try making a bigger deer/stag, it turned out better than before, but still a long way to go. I will take some photos soon :)

Is it one piece of foil, or did you attach the antlers? It's so cool!

It is two pieces. One forms the face, antlers and body core. I draped a second piece over that to form the fringe on the neck and legs.

do you make it out of one piece of foil or do you connect several pieces?

It is made out of two sheets of foil. The antlers ears and core body shape are one piece, and the legs and neck fur are made from a second piece laid over it.

In this case,it was suggested to me that I make some reindeer to put on ebay, as a special Christmas thing. He will be under Windstone Editions listing soon!
Normally, these ARE very spur of the moment things that I make for myself.
