Female Foo dog tea finish by Reptangle Female Foo dog tea finish by Reptangle
My foo dog!!
This is the finished female Foo-dog sculpture.
She is about 5 inches tall.
This dog has a tea -stain finish. Tea is the best thing to use to make the details show up clearly.
Now I need to start on a male Foo to complete the family.

When we start casting them, they will be sold unpainted, as paint-your-own pieces. These will be will be available from our online store [link]

I am really eager to see how these adult foos get painted. All of the painted foo puppies I have seen are creative, gorgeous and totally fantastic!

When will they be available for purchase? :) I'm really upset that you keep designing all these great PYOs because I'm running out of room, and relatives to give them away to!

They should be available soon. We are just waiting for the felt bottoms to get finished, then the first batch will go in the store.

absolutely beautiful! I don't see her listed in the windstone paint your own section, have they sold out or are they just not in production at the moment? What a shame to think I missed her, she's gorgeous!

They haven't been put in the store yet. If they sell out quickly ( new things usually do), we will be casting more.

This is really really cool! I really like the fact that it you still maintain the "traditional" look..
May I ask what did you use for the eyes?

We are casting these now. Soon as we get a big enough batch together (I hope to get 100 at least) we will put them in our online store. I never can predict when this will be, but probably in January 2013.

These must be fun to paint. I love the simple tea finish, though, makes it look like an old marble sculpture.

Your work is so stunning! I browsed your catalog and quickly recognized the owl bookends - I've got a pair of those, they are so lovely! I hope I can snag one (or two...) of these foo dogs when you start selling them. :)

The colorful iridescent foo dog is so cool, and this tea stain finish is gorgeous! I love the amount of detail you put into each piece.

Absolutely stunning Melody! I love how it looks traditional and real, not to mention all those lovely details. I plan on buying one as well when you've gotten them casted. However, isn't that tail going to be hard to caste? Small little hole there may become a problem or no? If not, I sure hope the male looks extravagant with all those curls and swirls.

Yes, the tail has been a problem. It needed to be buffed up a bit where it joins the dog's back, but I think casting it will be ok... hope so!

Yes I am planning to do a male. I will probably use the same body to save time, and just change the shoulders and head( Male and female foo dogs are often nearly identical anyway)

That's a great idea, hey and if it saves time ^_^ yeah normally female foo dogs are shown with a baby & males with a ball. Good Feng shui says to have the female on th right & the male on the left

That tea stain finish is really remarkable. The soft texturing looks like old marble or ivory, especially on your Foo-dog. She's so elegant! Do you really just use a normal tea and brush it on to get that stain effect?

:iconreptangle:
Reptangle Featured By Owner Jul 19, 2012  Professional Traditional Artist
Yes, it is just normal tea, brushed on. Red Rose brand, I think. Tea finish looks great when it works, but it doesn't always come out evenly.

Sweet! Looking forward to a new PYO! I love the swirl design for the tail tassels. And the face is so cute! I find Foo-dog designs interesting because of the blend feline and canine aspects.
